How long it takes

Customs and duty
Codice fiscale and consular residence documents
Before your goods move you will want a codice fiscale (the Italian tax number) and residence documentation from the Italian consulate covering your US state — typically evidence of your registration and a declaration of transfer of residence. The inventory should be in Italian, valued and signed. Standard EU conditions apply: residence outside the EU for at least 12 months and goods owned and used before the move. Italian customs applies the file strictly, and an incomplete one is held rather than queried.
